Getting Lit S3EP02: A Princess in Theory

Apr 1, 2019 | Podcast

by Alyssa Cole. This episode is a package of punching! Ilana and Wendy talk secret princes, cave sex, and the dubious infrastructure of a Wakanda-like country. We also dive deep into why career focused women like romances with princes and billionaires, and the dreaded phase “she can have it all.” Feminism and fangirling abounds.

Thesolo in Spring

This month we read “A Princess in Theory” by Alyssa Coles, which includes a prince from a Wakanda-like county that smells like some sort of special flower who comes to New York City to court the destined princess who does not know she is a princess.

So I went floral and this is a TEAM EFFORT. In pursuit of this drink I realized I needed creme de violette, which is a liquor made from violets. No luck in my small Midwestern city. I went over to Donna’s house for a spring party, noticed her very legit cocktail setup and just straight out of the blue asked her if she had some creme de violette. AND SHE DID. AND THEN LET ME HAVE SOME OF HER LOCALLY SOURCED LAVENDER. AND GAVE ME THIS RECIPE FROM A COCKTAIL BOOK.

I call this “Thesolo in the Spring”
1 1/2 oz blended scotch whiskey
3/4 oz creme de violette
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
3/4 oz lavendar syrup
ice cubes
flower petails

Directions: Okay this lavendar syrup thing sounds hard, but YOU CAN DO IT. Take like maybe a tsp lavendar and put 1.5 cupa of water. Bring that to boiler, add like a cup od sugar. Let that simmer on low for 15 minutes, then let it cool and steep for an hour. There ya have it!

Other than that, this is a simple put everything in a cocktail shaker with some ice, then garnish with some pretty flowers.

Thanks again Donna for being cool.

Wendy’s Rant

After having stumbled into being viewed as “career focused women,” Wendy and Ilana talk about how the current workforce and gender politics promote, rather than dissuade, our love for princes and billionaires.
