Getting Lit S4EP5: A Bollywood Affair

Getting Lit goes Bollywood with this contemporary romance, a bacchanal of food, weddings, babies, and strangely enough, Michigan countryside. Still adjusting to COVID-19, Ilana makes two different drinks for the podcast.

The first one is  “Little Sam” after the main character Samir’s junk. It’s essentially a white russian, which fits the character since Sam is also half white.

2 ounces (1/4 cup) vodka

1 1/2 ounces (3 tablespoons) Kahlua

1-2 ounces (2-4 tablespoons) chai tea concentrate

1-2 ounces (2-4 tablespoons) heavy cream

Couple of drops of vanilla extract

Star anise for garnish

Directions: fill cup with ice, add ingredients and stir.

This next one is “Take the Haveli Back” and it’s an adapted indian cardamon winter cocktail

½ cup water

½ cup honey

4-5 cardamom pods, lightly crushed

To make the simple syrup: First lightly crush the cardamon pods. Then combine all of the ingredients in a saucepan, stirring until combined. Simple syrup keeps up to six weeks in the fridge.

1 ½ oz. vodka

½ oz. honey cardamom simple syrup (see below)

½ oz. lemon juice

1 egg white

1-2 drops Angostura bitters

1 star anise

Combine all ingredients but bitters and star anise in a cocktail shaker and give it a couple of shakes. Strain into a glass and garnish.
